Agoda launches list for best family resorts in SEA
Tuesday, September 04, 2007
As Southeast Asian countries become increasingly popular vacation hot spots for families, Agoda Company, has released its list of ‘Best Family Resorts in SEA’ to highlight hotels that specifically cater for children. According to Agoda.com statistics, there has been a consistent growth in the number of bookings made for family-style accommodation since 2004, with the quantity of bookings having quadrupled in the last 3 years.

This is complemented by an increase in the number of hotels that specialize in children’s facilities and activities including kids clubs and baby sitting services.

Robert Rosenstein, Agoda’s Chief Operating Officer, explained that the trend also coincided with the region’s general development. Top holiday destinations such as Bali, Borneo, Langkawi and Phuket all offer international airports, hospitals and world-class sporting facilities, making them even more accessible and attractive to families.

“It makes perfect sense that more parents are opting to holiday in Southeast Asian destinations when accommodation, food and beverage and entertainment costs are at a fraction of the price of Western countries, yet the facilities and standards of service are of the same high standard,” he said.

The combination of warm weather, beautiful beaches and colorful culture of Southeast Asian countries further add to their appeal.

“Moreover, Indonesian, Malaysian and Thai people generally adore children, and parents get that added benefit of feeling truly welcome when staying with their family in these countries. Plus many Southeast Asian hotels offer special programs and services for children for free which parents simply would not receive in a Western setting,” added Rosenstein.

Agoda’s Best Family Resorts in SEA are:

  1. Ramada Karon Beach Resort Phuket, Thailand

  2. Sheraton Grande Laguna Resort, Phuket, Thailand

  3. Plantation Bay Resort, Cebu, Philippines

  4. Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

  5. Conrad Bali Resort & Spa, Bali, Indonesia

  6. Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa, Langkawi, Malaysia

  7. The Ritz-Carlton Bali Indonesia

  8. Holiday Inn Phuket, Thailand

  9. The Nusa Dua Hotel Resort & Spa, Bali, Indonesia

  10. Coco Beach Resort, Phan Thiet, Vietnam

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
