Gay&Lesbian tourism conference goes carbon neutral
Friday, September 21, 2007
Community Marketing (CMI), producer of the 8th International Conference on Gay & Lesbian Tourism in Fort Lauderdale, December 2-5, announced an important new partnership with NativeEnergy Travel Offsets for offsetting the carbon emissions associated with this year’s Annual Conference.

“This is a first for gay and lesbian events, and we hope, the beginning of an important trend for the growing number of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) meetings and events worldwide,” said Thomas Roth, CMI’s President. “This alliance was formed in recognition of the important leadership role the travel industry is poised to take on in the fight against global warming. Community Marketing values and supports efforts to help LGBT travelers better understand the issues surrounding global warming, and its implications for travel to vulnerable destinations.”

“In Community Marketing’s most recent travel survey of over 5,000 gay and lesbian consumers, more than half indicated a willingness to offset their travel carbon footprint,” added David Marshall, Research Director at CMI. “LGBT travel and hospitality suppliers can encourage and facilitate this trend by making travel offsets available as part of the reservations process.”

“Gay and gay-friendly tourism and hospitality companies are invited to support this key solution for the climate crisis by joining NativeEnergy Travel Offsets, which directly helps to build new clean energy sources that reduce overall carbon emissions. NativeEnergy uses carbon offsets to help build wind energy projects on Native American and Native Alaskan land and construct family farmer-owned renewable energy projects, providing mutual benefit for the environment and local people.”

“Community Marketing is pleased to join NativeEnergy in advocating powerful solutions among gay and lesbian travelers,” Roth said. NativeEnergy will make a presentation at the Conference about these simple yet powerful opportunities.
