KLM launches scheduled service to Dallas-Fort Worth
Tuesday, October 02, 2007
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will start operating a daily service to Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, U.S.A., in cooperation with Northwest Airlines. Dallas-Fort Worth will be KLM’s 61st intercontinental destination. The service will start March 30, 2008 and will be operated with Airbus 330-200 equipment, offering 30 World Business Class seats and 221 Economy Class seats.

“Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is an important business and leisure destination, and is one of the fastest growing markets in the U.S.A.. For that reason we want to offer our customers another direct flight to an important growth region in the U.S.A”, says Peter Hartman, president and CEO of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

Dallas-Fort Worth is the largest economic metropolitan area in the U.S.A., not being served by the combined KLM-Northwest Airlines network. Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex has a population of 6 Million inhabitants, ranking 4th among other U.S.A. metro markets. The airport of Dallas-Forth Worth ranks 6th in the world for passengers, with over 60 million passengers annually.

The start-up of the new service to Dallas-Fort Worth is part of KLM/Northwest Airlines’ commitment to serve the North American market. Dallas-Fort Worth will be the nineteenth North American destination served by the combined KLM - Northwest Airlines Joint Venture via Schiphol. In total, KLM and Northwest Airlines will operate 250 flights per week between Europe and North America.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
