Athens Hotel Branding Seminar to Take Place in September
Monday, May 30, 2005

Following the motto “Branding Your Hotel: How To Do It Right,” the Athens Hotel Branding Seminar will be held in Athens on September 23 and 24, 2005. The objective of this two-day event is to educate Greek hoteliers about the different ways of branding their hotels and the alternative choices such as franchising, management contracts or hotel consortia membership. Participants of the seminar will be mainly Greek hotel owners, investors and general managers.

“Greece has one of Europe’s largest hotel markets comprising 8,600 businesses with a total capacity of 341,000 rooms,” said Dr. Dimitris Koutoulas, the scientific chair of the Athens Hotel Branding Seminar. “However, despite its rapid growth, the Greek hotel sector is among the least penetrated by global and local brands, with only 2.5% of the country’s hotels having a brand affiliation. The unprecedented publicity of the 2004 Olympic Games of Athens and the billions invested in upgrading hotels and infrastructure throughout the country present a unique opportunity to boost Greek tourism during the next decade. To fully utilise this potential, Greek hotel owners need the global reach and marketing savvy that only the leading hotel brands can provide.”

The seminar sessions will be presented by local and international experts. Presentations will be held in Greek and in English.

The Athens Hotel Branding Seminar is organised by Travel Daily News, the leading and most influential tourism industry publication of Greece. Travel Daily News produces a daily e-newsletter both in Greek (http://www.traveldailynews.gr) and in English (http://www.traveldailynews.com). The Greek edition is read daily by 8,000 senior travel and hospitality professionals. The readership of the English edition is even larger, with 15,000 professionals from throughout the world receiving the daily e-newsletter. Travel Daily News also operates a separate consumer site and e-newsletter aimed at the Greek public under the travelforall.gr brand.

they will have temporary and minimal effect and the situation will stabilize in a year or two

we should be looking at a restructuring in the international tourism movements and trends

it is still too early to access the impact on world tourism, medium or long term

we will see more tourism closer to home, and less international travel
