Expansion Policy

What is your policy to strengthen your company worldwide?

We are expanding outside Germany, especially around the Mediterranean. As such, we have just announced that we will run a Maritim Resort and Suites in Estepona, Costa del Sol, which will open in summer, 2008. Our partner in identifying new projects abroad is HMS International GmbH from Cologne, an associated partner of Maritim. Under the umbrella of this cooperation, Maritim already runs hotels in Bali, Djerba, Yasmine Hammamet (both Tunisia) and Belek (Turkey).

What are the main obstacles – benefits in expanding your brand?

Main benefit is that the brand name becomes more exposed and known outside our core market Germany. There are currently 44 Maritim Hotels, 36 of which are in Germany.

Which destinations have more dynamic potentials?

Certainly the European cities are a more dynamic market for us. Our city hotels in Germany are specialized on conferences and meetings and European cities offer potential in this sector, too.

How did your company expand the previous decade and where are you going to invest in the next decade?

We did expand mostly around the Mediterranean but also within Germany (new hotels in Berlin 2005, Dresden May 2006 and soon in Düsseldorf - November 2007).

We are looking at new options in European cities and around the Mediterranean. The plan is not to invest as such but to run hotels by management contracts.

How is the use of biofuels by the aviation industry going to affect the environment?

It will be a positive step towards fighting climate change, as the aviation industry will be able to reduce its C02 emissions.

It will be positive for the environment but it will cause huge problems in other industries such as the food industry, especially in food supply.

It will have a negative impact as the widespread planting and use of biofuel crops could threaten the natural ecosystems.

It will harm the environment as carbon savings from biofuels are negligible.
