Robust world passenger traffic growth continues in October
Tuesday, December 04, 2007
Passenger demand continues to increase in October 2007 with the world airports reporting a 6 percent increase compared to October 2006. International passenger traffic rose by eight percent while domestic traffic increased by four percent. Strong growth in Africa was lead by Egypt, Morocco and South Africa.

In Latin America, a strong increase in international traffic was mainly driven by Mexico, Argentina and Peru. Brazil was particularly strong on domestic traffic. In North America more specifically, JFK Airport in New York is near the 50 million passengers per annum mark at the end of 2007, up over ten percent from last year while Newark and LaGuardia more or less stagnate.

DEFINITIONS PASSENGER TRAFFIC:

INTERNATIONAL (000s). TRAFFIC (PASSENGERS) PERFORMED BETWEEN THE DESIGNATED AIRPORT AND AN AIRPORT IN ANOTHER COUNTRY/TERRITORY.

DOMESTIC (000s). TRAFFIC (PASSENGERS) PERFORMED BETWEEN TWO AIRPORTS LOCATED IN THE SAME COUNTRY/TERRITORY.

Notes:

1. ACI, the only worldwide association of airports, is a non-profit organisation whose prime purpose is to represent the interests of airports and to promote professional excellence in airport management and operations. ACI has 573 members who operate over 1643 airports in 178 countries and territories.

2. PaxFlash statistics are based on a significant sample of airports that provide regular monthly reports to ACI. They represent approximately 60% of total passenger figures and 70% of total freight worldwide. The passenger traffic growth percentages are based on total passengers departing and arriving at the airport, and the freight data include uploaded and downloaded freight tonnage.

How will the currently developing financial crisis and oil prices rally affect the tourism industry?.

they will have temporary and minimal effect and the situation will stabilize in a year or two

we should be looking at a restructuring in the international tourism movements and trends

it is still too early to access the impact on world tourism, medium or long term

we will see more tourism closer to home, and less international travel
