Fairmont appoints new general maragers
Monday, December 17, 2007
In response to recent development activity and portfolio growth, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has announced appointments at two of its key international destinations. Nicholas Emery has been named the general manager of Fairmont Beijing and Jennifer Harding will take on the role of general manager of The Fairmont Royal Pavilion in Barbados.

A 22-year veteran to the hospitality industry, Emery has held progressive positions at various international properties in London, Pittsburgh and Chicago. Emery joined the company in 1999 at The Fairmont Chicago and was later appointed to his most recent position as general manager at The Fairmont Royal Pavilion. He will now serve as the general manager of Fairmont Beijing, the second Asia property for the brand, set to open in 2008.

Also taking on a new role within the company is Harding, a seasoned hospitality authority who has spent more than half of her career with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. With a degree from Westminster College in London, she began as a training advisor and consultant for the Hotel & Catering Board, ultimately leading Harding to human resources positions for Trust House Forte and Pemberton Hotels & Resorts in Barbados. She previously served as director, human resources and director of operations at The Fairmont Royal Pavilion, where she has now earned her appointment to general manager.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
