Aviapartner signs contract with Lufthansa and Swiss in Venice
Tuesday, December 18, 2007
Aviapartner Handling has signed a major contract with Lufthansa and Swiss for the provision of full handling services in Venice. The contract, effective 1 January 2008, covers about 5000 flights per year for both airlines combined. Lufthansa operates 10 flights each day out of Venice with 50-300 seat aircraft and Swiss 3 daily flights with RJ100 aircraft. The length of the contract will be 3 to 5 years.

The set of full handling services which Aviapartner will provide to Lufthansa and Swiss in Venice includes passenger services (check-in, boarding assistance, baggage tracing services), aircraft handling (loading and unloading, ground power, cleaning, water and sanitary services, freight and baggage transfer, headset, pushback and towing), and traffic operations (flight documentation, communication, crew briefing, and flight supervision).

Peter Oostenenk, Acting CEO of Aviapartner: “We are very proud that Lufthansa and Swiss have chosen Aviapartner for this major contract in Venice. This agreement represents a major step forward for our Venetian operations. Lufthansa and Swiss are among our major network carriers and this contract shows their continued confidence in Aviapartner. Our strategy of building close network relationships with major carriers in Europe and offering a consistent service delivery at a consistent quality level with an optimal quality/price ratio is illustrated by this major deal.”

Poll
How is the use of biofuels by the aviation industry going to affect the environment?

It will be a positive step towards fighting climate change, as the aviation industry will be able to reduce its C02 emissions.

It will be positive for the environment but it will cause huge problems in other industries such as the food industry, especially in food supply.

It will have a negative impact as the widespread planting and use of biofuel crops could threaten the natural ecosystems.

It will harm the environment as carbon savings from biofuels are negligible.
