First Westin vacation ownership resort in Kaua'i to open in April 2008
Monday, December 24, 2007

Starwood Vacation Ownership (SVO), a division of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, will open its third vacation ownership resort in Hawai'i, The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas, on the island of Kaua'i. The resort is scheduled to open in April 2008.

"Starwood has a long history in Hawai'i, dating back to the early 1960's as Sheraton was the first major hospitality brand on the Hawaiian Islands," said Denise Wardlow, general manager of The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas. "This property gives our travel partners more options to attract upscale clients who are repeat guests to the island of Kaua'i - guests who desire the convenience of a fully-furnished kitchen, washer and dryer, plus all of the luxurious amenities and services of a Westin resort."

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
