Dubai Sports City invests more in golf tourism
Wednesday, January 02, 2008
Leading figures overseeing golf delivery at Dubai Sports City have signed a contract with the world’s leading provider of golf transportation, it was announced on 30 December 2007. After an extensive search across a wide range of suppliers, executives from the Ernie Els Design 72 Par, 18-hole championship golf course – the first design by Ernie Els in the Middle East – secured a supply of custom-made golf carts from the US-based Club Car company

“Troon Golf is the world's leading luxury-brand golf management, development and marketing company, so it should come as no surprise that we ensure that every possible detail in the golf experience is of a world-class calibre – even the golf carts
in which our players ride. We are proud to be bringing the best in the world to Dubai,” said Thomas Rubi, General Manager of the new Els-designed golf course at Dubai Sports City.

The exclusive design of the carts remained a closely guarded secret, to be unveiled in January 2008. But its livery and colour scheme is expected to complement the overall look and feel of the course and club, according to newly appointed Sales and Marketing Manager, Darren King.

Dubai Sports City is signalling its intent to create the premier sporting destination in the region, starting with the opening of the magnificent Ernie Els-designed golf course in 2008. Close attention to detail, and the careful stocking of the course’s pro shop inventory with high-end luxury products that meet simultaneously all the necessary sporting requirements, is further evidence of this unique project taking shape.

Golf is one of the key sports for Dubai Sports City, the cornerstone of the Dubailand project, and the competition-standard course will provide an important global focal point for players from across the world.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
