China Airlines and Mandarin Airlines prepare to launch charter flights to mainland China
Friday, January 11, 2008
In order to meet and greet the 2008 Chinese Lunar New Year, China Airlines and its subsidiary Mandarin Airlines will work together to launch Lunar New Year charter flights directly to mainland China, from February 3 to 14. A total of 16 round trip flights to Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou have been arranged, including eight charters on the Taoyuan – Shanghai – Taoyuan route, two on the Taoyuan – Beijing – Taoyuan route, four on the Taoyuan – Guangzhou – Taoyuan route, and two on the Kaohsiung – Shanghai – Kaohsiung route.

The charters will allow passengers to enjoy fast and convenient return trips to their hometowns for family reunions. All the charter flights will provide two-class service.

"With the required mileage, or additional payment, Dynasty Flyer members can upgrade their seats or redeem a free ticket on the charter flights, and Dynasty Flyer members can also accumulate mileage on the charter flights. However, the above reservation service and Dynasty Flyer member upgrades and redemptions will not be open for on-line service," the carrier said.

"Passengers on China Airlines and Mandarin Airlines can use their tickets interchangeably on both airlines, and can combine scheduled flights with the charter flights."

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
