Hesperia Hotels to open 5-star urban resort in Saint Petersburg, Russia
Tuesday, February 05, 2008
Hesperia Hotels has announced a new and ambitious European project which will see the predominantly Spanish property hotel company expand into Russia for the first time. The project is the result of a management contract that Hesperia Hotels have signed with GC-Development Group, which is one of the largest Russian holding companies specialising in leisure complex development.

The 5-star complex, which is predicted to open in 2010, will accommodate a luxury hotel with 300 stylish rooms and a Conference Centre complete with an Auditorium with a capacity for 500 people and 23 meeting rooms. The hotel and Conference Centre will cover 41,000 sqm and will be managed by the Hesperia chain.

The new complex will house a spectacular 35,000 sqm health and fitness centre, a 28,000 sqm office block, a 60.000 sqm parking lot, a water park and heliport.

The architectural project has been entrusted to the team formed by Willy Müller Architects and BPG Arquitectes after an international competition in which other studios of recognised prestige such as Estudio Lamela (Madrid) and RTKL (London) also participated. The judges viewed the winning proposal as being the most innovative on a conceptual level, the most balanced and realistic, with a high attention to detail and a better use of space.

Willy Müller Architects and BPG Arquitectes are currently considered to be two of the architectural studios with the greatest international renown having been responsible for innovative projects and the interior design of many luxury establishments.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
