Swiss-Belhotel to develop second hotel in Oman
Friday, February 08, 2008
Swiss-Belhotel International has announced development of their seventh hotel in the Middle East region – Swiss-Belhotel Al Qurm, Oman. The announcement reflects an agreement between the rapidly growing hotel group and Dubai based, HBG Holdings Ltd.

“Coming quickly on the heels of the acquisition of Sohar Beach by Swiss-Belhotel earlier this month, we are delighted to announce our second property in Oman, Swiss-Belhotel Al Qurm. We have an aggressive expansion plan in place for the group with particular emphasis on the Middle East region.” said Mr Gavin Faull, President, Swiss-Belhotel International.

Located in Muscat, Swiss-Belhotel Al Qurm, Oman is a multi-purpose hotel complex comprising two towers. Tower 1 features a 179-room 4 star hotel, while Tower 2 features 120 residential apartments, 3 floors of commercial office space, spa and health club facilities.

According to Mr Edgar Solenthaler, Vice President Operations & Development - Middle East, Swiss-Belhotel International, the property will be contemporary in design with distinctive Omani touches.

“The multi-function nature of the property lends itself to both leisure and corporate guests,” said Mr Solenthaler.

“The hotel will be well equipped for larger families with 25% of the total rooms inter-connecting.” he added.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
