Malta-based Corinthia Hotels International (CHI) announced the appointment of German national Stefan Buchs as the General Manager of the Corinthia Hotel Prague. Stefan Buchs has also been appointed Vice President of Western and Central Europe for CHI. In addition to managing the five-star Prague hotel, Stefan will be directly responsible for all of CHI’s operations and profitability across the Corinthia, Wyndham and Ramada brands that the company operates in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Portugal, and Russia. He will be based in Prague, and will be reporting directly to company Chief Executive Officer Tony Potter.

Boutique Hotels & Resorts of British Columbia announced the appointment of Diane Mombourquette as General Manager of the spectacular new Black Rock Oceanfront Resort in Ucluelet. Located on the west coast of British Columbia’s Vancouver Island, Mombourquette will lead the hotel through its highly anticipated opening in early summer 2008 and carry on to build its reputation as one of Canada’s finest resort properties.

Concur announced the appointment of former NBTA President & CEO Suzanne Fletcher as director of travel management. In her new role, Fletcher will manage Concur's global travel service relationships, both internally and externally, playing a critical role in continuing to build out Concur Connect, a global program that connects travel suppliers from around the world to more than $35 billion of spend driven by Concur's more than 6,000 clients.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
