Aberdeen continues to be a successful destination for meetings
Monday, March 24, 2008
Aberdeen, Scotland, has long been known as a great destination for golf, whisky and castles, but as 2007 proved, Aberdeen continues to be a thriving meeting site for a multitude of industries. Offshore Europe, a premier international oil event, reached record breaking numbers when it met at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre, September 4 - 7, 2007. The biennial show, the largest oil & gas technical meeting outside of North America, reached an amazing attendance of 35,000 attendees, with 1,455 exhibiting companies from all over the world. Event organizers were thrilled with the show's unprecedented numbers, declaring the show an outstanding success.

In April, 2007, over 1,500 teachers from more than 70 countries attended the 41st International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) Annual Conference and Exhibition. The event took place in various places around the city and the AECC's in-house exhibition and AV/IT teams provided all AV and additional services. The organizers we thrilled with the outcome and could not have been more pleased with Aberdeen. "IATEFL would like to thank the AECC for all they did to make our conference a terrific success. From the moment we first met you, we could see that we were in exceptional hands and that the venue was very good," Tessa Woodword, Vice President, IATEFL.

2008 looks to be just as promising with: Chartered Institute of Housing in Scotland Annual Conference & Exhibition, March 10-13; VisitScotland Expo, April 16-17; All-Energy '08, May 21-22; SPE Fourth International Conference on Oilfield Corrosion, May 27; SPE International Conference on Oilfield Scale, May 28; The Ladies Circle International Conference 2008, August 28-September 1; and Food Micro, September 1-4, to name a few of the upcoming meetings.

"Meeting Planners have found that when they bring their groups to Aberdeen, they are bound to have high, if not record breaking attendance. With 112 meetings, 26 conferences, and seven exhibitions on the books for the next two years, and more in the pipeline, the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre and the City of Aberdeen can expect tremendous growth in business and opportunities," said Brian Horsburgh, Deputy Managing Director, AECC. "We are looking forward to another successful year."

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
