Barwell Travel suspends trading activities
Monday, May 05, 2008

Barwell Travel suspended all trading activities as the company appointed administrators to evaluate the company’s financial position and financial prospects. During the past few months, the Barwell Travel has been in serious negotiations with numerous interested Tour Operators / Investors with a view to concluding either a trade sale or inward investment.

"It is deeply regretted partially due to the current “credit crisis” that management were unable to get one of those deals concluded prior to the expiry of the current ATOL license. As a consequence, the directors took the decision to protect the Company’s affairs by seeking the appointment of Administrators to the Company," said the company in its statement.

This subsequently resulted in the appointment of Geoffrey Bouchier and Paul Clark of Menzies Corporate Restructuring as Joint Administrators to the Company on 1 May 2008.

During this time and until further notice, all trading activities have been suspended. The position regarding future departures and bookings remains uncertain. The Administrators are currently in discussions with the various interested parties with a view to concluding a sale of the business to allow the existing customer bookings to be fulfilled. An update on the position regarding the cancellation of any future bookings will be made on Friday afternoon and posted on this website.

The Company is a member of ABTA, Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing (ATOL), International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and both organisations have been advised of the situation and they have put processes in place to deal with passenger enquires and claims.

For those customers travelling by air, Barwell Travel advised that the Company was bonded under the Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing (ATOL) system managed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). For those customers travelling by means other than air, Barwell Travel advised that the Company was bonded under ABTA.
The Administrators are in the process of provided the CAA and ABTA with all passengers names and addresses and booking details so that they are fully up to date on the situation.

Poll
How is the use of biofuels by the aviation industry going to affect the environment?

It will be a positive step towards fighting climate change, as the aviation industry will be able to reduce its C02 emissions.

It will be positive for the environment but it will cause huge problems in other industries such as the food industry, especially in food supply.

It will have a negative impact as the widespread planting and use of biofuel crops could threaten the natural ecosystems.

It will harm the environment as carbon savings from biofuels are negligible.
