Air Berlin is switching to Malpensa
Tuesday, May 06, 2008

Air Berlin is switching its flights from Bergamo Orio al Serio to Milan Malpensa. From 16th June 25 flights a week will be taking off from terminal 1 of the largest airport in northern Italy, heading for Berlin-Tegel and Düsseldorf. These two hubs offer connections to ten other German cities, as well as major European destinations, such as Gothenburg, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Moscow.

“The move to Malpensa will make Air Berlin flights from Italy even more attractive for people travelling on business and for pleasure," said Marco Fontana, Country Manager Italy at Air Berlin. “The airport has excellent transport links. The train journey to the city centre takes just 40 minutes.”

Air Berlin has been flying to Milan since 2002. The number of passengers has more than doubled since then. The airline carried over 300,000 passengers in 2007.

Poll
The imminent privatization of Olympic Airlines is expected to change the fate of this debt-laden airline. What do you think the new owner should do in regard to the brand name of the Greek national flag carrier?.

Keep “Olympic Airlines” as the name of the company as it remains a strong brand.

The company should keep “Olympic” as an element of its name but refresh the brand (e.g. “New Olympic Airlines”).

The airline should drop “Olympic” from its name. This brand has lost its value and isn’t relevant to the market anymore.
