Guam links up with AOL Travel
Tuesday, May 06, 2008

The Guam Visitors Bureau Chairman of the Board David Tydingco has confirmed GVB’s participation in AOL Travel’s online promotion of the 25th Annual National Tourism Week. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Discover Great American Traditions” and it encourages travel to American destinations while highlighting the role that tourism plays in discovering the special attractions and interesting facts about each destination.

In preparation of celebrating National Tourism Week in America, May 10 – 18, the Travel Industry Association (TIA), who have joined AOL Travel in presenting the promotion, advised its members of the opportunity to participate in the free promotion designed to celebrate travel and tourism.

Guam will join other U.S. destinations participating in the promotion by having their message and link to the GVB website posted on AOL Travel and seen by millions of AOL users over the course of the promotion. The AOL Travel link goes live on May 1 along with the completed AOL-Tourism Week web pages.

As part of the National Tourism Week promotion, AOL Travel has created nine themed galleries that create fantastic opportunities to learn more about Guam and the US. The themes are, Food; Natural Wonders; American Heritage; Weird & Wacky Local Landmarks; Theme Parks; Zoos & Aquariums; Boardwalks; Museums; and Arts & Culture. Each participating destination, including Guam, was invited to submit a short story about a unique attraction or site that corresponds to one of the galleries above. Each of the nine galleries will also include exciting photos of each featured destination.

Visitors to AOL Travel can click on the links provided for each destination to visit their website and learn more about each location. The destination links will only be active through May 18; although the AOL Travel – National Tourism Week pages will remain active until further notice.

Throughout National Tourism Week, AOL Travel will rotate the stories and photos featured in the nine galleries, so web surfers are encouraged to continue visiting AOL Travel throughout the nine-day celebration.

Poll
How will the currently developing financial crisis and oil prices rally affect the tourism industry?.

they will have temporary and minimal effect and the situation will stabilize in a year or two

we should be looking at a restructuring in the international tourism movements and trends

it is still too early to access the impact on world tourism, medium or long term

we will see more tourism closer to home, and less international travel
