The Ritz-Carlton opens new hotel in China
Wednesday, May 07, 2008

Luxury living is put firmly on the map in China's tropical Hainan Island province with the opening of The Ritz-Carlton, Sanya. "We are delighted to be able to bring the first true luxury resort hotel to China to complement our city destinations on the mainland. Sanya is a beautiful, paradise island offering visitors perfect white sandy beaches, stunning mountains, rain forest, mangrove reserves and year-round sunshine," explained Simon F. Cooper, president and chief operating officer of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C.

"We have no doubt that Sanya has the potential to be a resort island of true international appeal, attracting visitors from all over the world, whether they are visiting the island for business or pleasure. It really is a hidden gem and the opening of The Ritz-Carlton, Sanya helps to put this destination on the map for discerning luxury travelers."

The property is designed by WAT&G Design and draws influence and inspiration from the classic building design of Beijing's Summer Palace.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
