Changi airport bags two awards
Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Singapore Changi Airport bagged two awards in Singapore and London yesterday (13 May). Changi Airport continued to remain a favourite and maintain its strong lead in the travel retail industry. In another poll, Changi Airport was voted best airport among readers of the UK-based UltraTravel magazine.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), which manages Changi Airport, topped the chart as ‘The Airport Authority with the Most Supportive Approach to Travel-Retail’ at the Duty Free News International (DFNI) Awards for Travel-Retail Excellence in the Asia/Pacific region.

The DFNI (formerly Raven Fox) Awards, which were presented in Singapore yesterday (13 May), are the most well-established and representative awards for the travel retail industry in the Asia/Pacific region. The awards recognise companies that have excelled in the past year through a vote open to all companies in the
region active in the travel-retail business. The other nominees for this airport award include the Airport Authority of Hong Kong and Incheon International Airport Corporation.

Changi Airport also performed equally well in a poll organised by UltraTravel, a British travel publication. The readers of UltraTravel gave Changi the thumbs up as they cast their votes for their favourite travel suppliers and products. Changi Airport received the ‘Best Airport in the World’ award at the Ultimate Luxury Travel Related Awards ceremony held in London today.

Reflecting on these achievements, CAAS’ Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lim Kim Choon, said, "To sustain the confidence and support from retailers and travellers for many years is no easy feat. The travel retail industry is one in which retail trends and patterns are constantly evolving. Changi’s new Terminal 3 has helped CAAS to garner even more support as it has created new opportunities for the airport and our retail partners to further enhance the retail experience of our travellers.”

He added, “We would like to thank all voters who have given us their continued support as we strive to continuously improve our service standards and facilities." Changi Airport has won a total of 9 awards so far this year, including these two new awards.
