Domus Selecta includes its first establishment in Cuba
Thursday, May 15, 2008

Domus Selecta, has included its first hotel in Cuba. The Hotel Santa Isabel is an exclusive establishment located in Old Havana, the historical heart of the Cuban capital. With this addition, the brand of hotels belonging to Hotusa Hotels now has presence in some twenty countries and enlarges its portfolio to over 200 member establishments.

The Hotel Santa Isabel is classical and elegant in style, earning its five-star category, located close to the historical Plaza de Armas and the Royal Forces Castle, Havana’s oldest fortress. It is set in an old, colonial-style mansion house, transformed into a luxury hotel in 1867. The establishment became a meeting point for the bourgeoisie and artists who populated the country at the end of the 19th century, as much for the exclusivity of its amenities as for the marvellous views from its vantage-point terrace, overlooking the bay of Havana.

Having undergone meticulous renovation, the Hotel Santa Isabel has conserved a large part of its original architectural features. In addition to Cuba, Domus Selecta has recently disembarked in Argentina, where it has added to the list the Vain Hotel in Buenos Aires, as well as the Eurostars Suites Reforma in Mexico City. The brand’s portfolio comprises over 200 establishments and encompasses hotels in 11 European countries: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom; 2 African countries: Morocco and South Africa; and 4 Latin American countries: Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and Mexico.

The imminent privatization of Olympic Airlines is expected to change the fate of this debt-laden airline. What do you think the new owner should do in regard to the brand name of the Greek national flag carrier?.

Keep “Olympic Airlines” as the name of the company as it remains a strong brand.

The company should keep “Olympic” as an element of its name but refresh the brand (e.g. “New Olympic Airlines”).

The airline should drop “Olympic” from its name. This brand has lost its value and isn’t relevant to the market anymore.
