SWISS to adjust its fares at the end of May
Monday, May 19, 2008
SWISS will be raising its fares slightly at the end of May. The price of a SWISS flight from Switzerland will be increased by an average of around 2.5 per cent. With the cost of crude oil having reached new record highs over the past few weeks and months and with little prospect of any easing of the situation even in the mid-to-long-term future, SWISS has decided to follow its competitors and effect a moderate increase to its fares the carrier announced.

The price of a SWISS flight from Switzerland will thus be raised by an average of some 2.5 per cent on May 27. Some fares - such as those in lower fare categories and special offers - will remain unchanged.

The increases will apply to all tickets for SWISS travel from Switzerland issued on or after May 27. The new fares will not apply to any tickets issued before this date.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
