THAI to implement e-ticketing worldwide from June 1, 2008
Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Starting from June 1, 2008, passengers traveling on all THAI flights will be issued with an “Electronic Ticket” or e-Ticket, to replace the current standard paper ticket. An “e-Ticket” is a ticket in which no physical travel document is printed. This is a new industry standard whereby the flight coupons move from system to system without any manual intervention. Unlike the old paper tickets, e-tickets have no paper coupons and passengers are issued with only the Passenger Itinerary printout for reference.

This is one of THAI’s ongoing plans to simplify and improve the overall passengers' travel experience by reducing the hassle of handling less travel documents. It is also to keep with the industry’s trend and compliance, as well as, the continuing “green” contribution in helping to save the planet by reducing the use of paper.

"We would like to assure all our passengers, that the system has been initiated and used on a limited scale for the past five years. E-tickets are issued by all accredited IATA travel agents, therefore, you can be assured that once you have completed your reservation and ticketed, your travel data to each destination will safely be stored on our database. Payment options remain the same as they were with the old paper ticket. THAI will still accept paper tickets that were issued before June 1, 2008. However, any changes made to your travel arrangements will require that the information be validated and re-issued with the new e-ticket. Check-in procedures at the airport have also been simplified as the passenger need only to present their positive identification documents, such as a passport," said the carrier.
