Belgrade fuels the city break market
Tuesday, June 10, 2008
The first day of City Break 2008 took off with over 500 city break specialists representing 70 European destinations.  With the city of Belgrade as the backdrop, the show’s strongest hosted buyers will meet new and emerging European destinations and suppliers.

Hosted buyer, Dragana Pilipovic from Aventure Del Mondo, Moscow commented:  “This is the first time I have participated at this type of event and it’s proving to be invaluable.  The show is extremely well organised, the exhibitors are excellent and I’m creating valuable relationships with several tourism destination management companies.  I am excited and impressed seeing what Belgrade has to offer the leisure tourist”.

City Break is the business to business travel forum bringing the city break tourism industry in a programme of one to one appointments combined with networking opportunities. City Break is also being used by many of the exhibitors as the most important event to launch their new products.  New projects being launched at City Break 2008 include:

  • Tourism Organisation of Belgrade (Serbia) is using its presence as the key sponsor of City Break 2008 to promote the city as an all year round destination with historic buildings, museums, galleries and a flourishing nightlife.
  • Vienna Tourist Board (Austria) is presenting ‘Love Life, Live Creativity 2009’; a programme that combines art, music, concerts and exhibitions in Vienna. The city will also host the Joseph Haydn Festival in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of his death (1732-1809).
  • Visit London (UK) will be using City Break 2008 to promote the opening of the new Gallery of Botanical Art at Kew Gardens and the Greenwich Observation Wheel, open 21 June - 28 September 2008.
  • Office de Tourisme de Bordeaux (France) will be presenting their brand new Unesco World Heritage tours as well as new wine and vineyard excursions departing from Bordeaux.
  • Basel Tourism (Switzerland) will be promoting the Van Gogh exhibition opening from April until September 2009. They will also be launching a new hotel IBIS opening in 2009 and the complete renovation of the four star property hotel Euler.
  • Turin Tourist Board (Italy) will be introducing two new packages: “Step by step” and “Merenda Reale.
  • Grand Casino Beograd (Serbia) will be launching the region’s largest casino available for events and conferences.
  • Tourist Organisation Podgorica (Montenegro) will present Podgorica, Montenegro’s capital as a new city break destination under the slogan: “The youngest but with rich tradition, one of the smallest but with the highest direct foreign investments”.
  • The Zacchera Group (Italy) will be focusing on its plan to promote their portfolio of hotels between Baveno and Stresa in the magnificent surroundings of Lake Maggiore. They will be presenting the recently inaugurated Ballroom Carlo.
