Accor strengthens its leadership in Vietnam with fifth hotel in capital city
Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Accor announced that it has partnered with Hanoi Tourism and SIH Investment Ltd to develop Novotel Hanoi on the Park in Hanoi’s central business district.

Today marks the beginning of the construction of this 376-room hotel which benefits from an outstanding location in the historic Reunification Park and will feature the latest Novotel innovations such as the Novation rooms, the Square Restaurant including a terrace, a pool bar, a kids’ corner and a 500sqm function room that will be one of the biggest ballrooms in the heart of Hanoi to offer a park view. With its attractive outlook and excellent leisure facilities, Novotel Hanoi on the Park will position itself as a “resort within the city” and suit both leisure and business markets.

Novotel Hanoi On the Park will be Accor’s fifth hotel in Hanoi. In Vietnam, Accor currently operates the Sofitel Metropole Hanoi, the Sofitel Plaza Hanoi and is expected to open Mercure Hanoi La Gare in early 2009 and Mercure Hanoi Hado in 2010.

The Novotel Hanoi On the Park is owned by SIH Investment Ltd, a joint venture between VinaCapital, Accor and River Nile.

“The Novotel Hanoi On the Park when completed, will stand out for its blend of elegance and value. We are very happy to join with Hanoi Tourism and the joint venture partners to bring another top hotel to the Vietnam’s capital,” says Patrick Basset, Accor Vice President, East & North East Asia.

Novotel – Urban hotels for natural living

With a worldwide network of 387 hotels and over 39, 000 rooms in 58 countries, Novotel promises its customers the guaranteed comfort of a bedroom, 24 hours food and beverage solution, connectivity and attentive staff. Since its debut in 1967, Novotel has always been famous for offering excellent value for money and to maintain the same quality standards in all hotels, throughout the world. The full service concept is the core brand strategy and always involves the 5 following functions: room, food & beverage area, meeting room, leisure facilities, parking.

2008 is a significant year for the Novotel brand in Vietnam as Accor will open two new hotels in Halong Bay (August) and Nha Trang (September). Novotel Hanoi On the Park will complement these two popular destinations among international and local visitors. The 1-ha site dedicated to the hotel within the Reunification Park will certainly answer to guests’ demand for space, fluidity, design, innovation, warm atmosphere and easy living.

In March 2008, Accor officially opened its fully operational office in Ho Chi Minh City and also announced 10 new hotels to be developed between end 2008 to 2010: Pullman Lao Cai, Pullman Sapa Resort, Pullman Vung Tau, Mercure Hanoi La Gare, Mercure Hanoi Hado, Novotel Phu Quoc Resort, Novotel Halong Bay, Novotel Nha Trang, Novotel Hoi An Imperial Resort and Novotel Hanoi On The Park.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
