Durham Tourism Authority names Green successor
Thursday, June 12, 2008
Shelly Green has been named President & CEO-elect by a unanimous vote of the Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau's Tourism Development Authority. Green, a 19 year veteran of destination marketing, has served as Chief Operating Officer of the Durham CVB since January of 2000.
Green will assume her new position upon the retirement of President Reyn Bowman, scheduled for January 2010.

Mary Simpson, Chair of the Tourism Development Authority and President of M-S Holdings, LLC noted, "We are fortunate to have someone of Shelly's caliber ready to step into this role. In addition to having a keen understanding of Durham's product, assets and unique challenges, Shelly has executive experience having served as the head of two other CVB's in North Carolina."

Compensation for Green will be set at the time she assumes her new position and will be based upon performance and market considerations.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
