Hottest clubs announced as NCL reveals its vision for nightlife at sea
Friday, June 27, 2008
One-of-a-kind experiences inspired by the nightlife capitals of the world – South Beach, Ibiza, the Riviera and Las Vegas - will open on board NCL’s innovative new F3 ships, launching in 2010.

NCL Freestyle Cruising is redefining nightlife at sea, with clubs designed to bring chic, upscale experiences all night and day, and spaces designed for multiple uses including exclusive adult-only venues.

“There is nothing ordinary about these ships. The F3s are unconventionally extraordinary,” said Stephen Park, General Manager, NCL UK.

Five top hotspots include the first true Ice Bar at sea; the POSH Beach Club - an exclusive, adults-only destination at the top of the ship; Halo, the Über Bar - a private bar and lounge in the ‘ship-within-a-ship’ villa complex; Spice H20, an adults-only aft pool deck experience and Bliss Ultra Lounge, the entertainment complex with four-lane bowling alley.

“Every experience on board will be unique. F3 won’t have massive void spaces and rooms used just for one activity, these venues have multiple uses for sunbathing, bowling and dining, as well as being party playgrounds,” said Park.

NCL’s new hotspots include:

NCL’s Ice Bar – chill out and chat-up - One of just 14 ice bars in the world, the cruise industry’s first true ice bar is the ultimate chill. The frozen chamber features changing hues of LED lighting to a soundtrack of the latest techno beats. The bar, walls, tables, stools, glasses and life-size sculptures will all be made of ice. The Ice Bar will accommodate 25 guests who will be provided with fur coats, gloves and hats, since the room temperature will not rise above minus eight degrees Celsius.

POSH Beach Club – the VIP highlife by day and all night - Adult guests who purchase a ‘members-only’ POSH pass will take a private glass elevator to enter this luxurious and exclusive outdoor complex styled with a Mediterranean vibe. During the day, guests lounge on white-cushioned day beds and in private cabanas, and can cool off in the 35-foot long cascading waterfall. By night POSH becomes an open-air nightclub with VIP bottle service and a DJ setting the scene for the all-night party. POSH will offer four VIP experiences:

POSH Vive – 6am – 9am – guests awake to yoga classes and body-and-soul treatments in private cabanas as the sun rises.

POSH Rehab – 9am – noon – Relax and recover from the night before with Salty Dogs, Bloody Mary’s and mimosas set to chill-out tunes.

POSH Sol – Noon – 6pm – Guests enjoy upbeat beach sounds and spiked snow-cones while chilling under a lit waterfall.

Pure POSH – 8pm to whenever – A sizzling, sexy nightlife experience. Drinks and bottle service on silver trays, guests dancing under the stars and relaxing on cushy beds in true Riviera style.

Halo, the Über Bar – heavenly and very exclusive - Garden and Courtyard villa guests will have exclusive access to this VIP bar located on private deck 16. This space will showcase the best of the best – fine liquor will be served and private gaming tables will add to the sexy style in this adult-only club. LED video montages placed strategically around the room will set the mood, showcasing the best music videos, places and fashion.

Spice H20 – what an aft-pool never dared to be - Infused with Latin and Asian colours and vibes, this adults-only area features a huge LED screen displaying vibrant video images ranging from charging bulls and flamenco dancers to tap dancing Geishas. During the day, guests can soak up the sun in lounge beds around the pool while enjoying Asian inspired music and cuisine in Chinese noodle boxes. In the evening, Spice H20 transforms into an Ibiza-inspired beach club with live entertainment and dinner served tableside or to beds. By night, the mood is red-hot with Latin mash-up music, dancing and unique entertainment atop the covered pool in this outdoor amphitheatre.

Bliss Ultra Lounge and Nightclub – back by popular demand - NCL takes its popular Bliss Ultra Lounge and Nightclub, featured on Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Pearl, to the F3 ships. Bliss features NCL’s signature bowling alley at sea as part of this all-day entertainment and nightclub complex – the addition of gaming tables with dealers will provide the feel of a decadent Las Vegas nightclub.

NCL’s F3 ships will incorporate a world of new features. They represent the company’s third generation of Freestyle Cruising ships, a further evolution of NCL’s progressive dismantling of the structure, regimentation, and constraints of the traditional cruise experience. The 150,000-ton ships will each total 4,200 passenger berths, representing the largest ships in NCL’s fleet.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
