Budget airline moves Gatwick launch to Spring 2009
Thursday, July 03, 2008
Iceland Express has announced that its new Gatwick service, which will complement the existing Stansted flights, will now be launched in Spring 2009.

The new route between London Gatwick and Reykjavik, which was due to commence on 16 September 2008, will now start its five-times-per-week service from the Spring.

Birna Guomundsdottir, marketing manager for Iceland Express, said:  “We have decided to move the launch of this exciting new service to the Spring as it is the peak travel season for Iceland.  While the number of bookings has never been higher for Iceland Express, we do not want the current increase in fuel costs to impact on the ticket prices for our customers.

“Iceland Express is remaining cautious in the current uncertain economic climate, while continuing to deliver the best possible service at the best possible price.  Iceland Express is a Budget airline and we want to ensure it stays that way.”

Iceland Express is also pleased to announce it will be introducing two Boeing 737-700s from September.  The aircraft are more environmentally friendly and will result in a 25 per cent reduction on fuel costs for Iceland Express.

All passengers who had booked flights on the Gatwick service have been notified and offered either a full refund or an alternative flight.

The existing Stansted to Reykjavik route will continue to operate a daily service.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
