Opodo launches the Tarmac Text
Wednesday, August 20, 2008
Opodo is giving its customers a personalised send off before they go on their travels with its new Tarmac Tex.

Passengers booking flights through Opodo will now receive a handy text ahead of their trip containing their booking reference number, flight number, flight departure time and a weather summary at their chosen holiday destination.

The text, which is free to receive*, is sent to bookers in the UK the day before they fly.

Caroline Noble, UK Director at Opodo says, “We want to ensure that we are contacting our customers with information that is tailored and relevant to them, so the tarmac text is a great way for us to do this.

“As an online travel agency it’s also exciting for us to have the opportunity to communicate directly with our customers and incorporate a little personal touch to their booking.”

To receive the Tarmac Text, customers optionally supply their mobile phone number at the booking stage online or over the phone. The launch of the Tarmac Text comes as Opodo adds a range of new products to its site, including cottages, villas and lodges, as well as adventure tours through Gap Adventures.

Poll
The imminent privatization of Olympic Airlines is expected to change the fate of this debt-laden airline. What do you think the new owner should do in regard to the brand name of the Greek national flag carrier?.

Keep “Olympic Airlines” as the name of the company as it remains a strong brand.

The company should keep “Olympic” as an element of its name but refresh the brand (e.g. “New Olympic Airlines”).

The airline should drop “Olympic” from its name. This brand has lost its value and isn’t relevant to the market anymore.
