August 29, 2008, Taipei, Taiwan - In response to today’s announcement by Japan’s Aircraft and Railway Accidents Investigation Commission (ARAIC) regarding the Progress Report on the 2007 incident in Okinawa, Japan, China Airlines stated that the report only considered the various factors related to the incident. The final results of the investigation will be released at a later date.

In accordance with the Progress Report, China Airlines reviewed its maintenance records and confirmed that it completed the required inspections in a timely manner on its Boeing 737-800 aircraft, according to Boeing’s service letters and service bulletins. The aircraft involved in the incident completed its inspection from July 6 to July 13, 2007, prior to the event in Okinawa.

At present, China Airlines is fully cooperating with the authorities prior to the release of the final report.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
