Michael Wong re-appointed as Tourism Malaysia Ambassador
Friday, September 12, 2008
Malaysian singing sensation Michael Wong hasextended his contract as Tourism Ambassador for Malaysia, celebrating the agreement at the official launch of Tourism Malaysia’s brand new campaign, held today at the Hotel Mira in Hong Kong.

Mr Wong performed his hit new single “Right Hand Side” live at the campaign launch in front of a packed house assembled to see the highly-anticipated TVC in which Mr Wong stars.

The TVC and the others in the series, entitled “Truly My Moment” were filmed in the Bako National Park in Sarawak, Langkawi, Pulau Perhentian in Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur. They show a more touching, personal account of Malaysia evoking a sense of good times and great memories gained from Malaysia; stories to be reminisced and re-told over and over.

With the theme song of the TVC sung by Mr Wong in Mandarin, the campaign is the first to directly target Hong Kong and mainland China travellers, a market which continues to be strategically important for Malaysia, with an exponential increase in visitor arrivals and increased flights from these regions further boosting Malaysia’s booming tourism industry. Madam Zaliha Zainuddin, Director of Tourism Malaysia Promotional Board (Hong Kong & Macau Office) said the renewal of the contract cemented an already successful partnership between Tourism Malaysia and Mr Wong, which has provided great benefits to tourism, and the people of Malaysia.

“Mr Wong is a perfect ambassador for Malaysia in (East Asia Market) China region and we are thrilled to team with him again,” said Ms Zainuddin. “And I’m sure everyone will agree after the screening of this superbly produced TVC that he will once again entice travellers from Hong Kong and China to visit our beautiful country.”

Hugely popular in mainland China and Hong Kong, Mr Wong holds the accolade for the Best Selling Chinese Album of all time “Tong Hua (Fairy Tale)” and is listed in the Malaysia Book of Records as the Malaysian Chinese Male Composer with the highest number of awards. He was a recipient of the Outstanding Young Malaysian Awards in 2006 and received the most titles at the Metro Radio Awards in Hong Kong in 2007.

The launch also featured a fashion show by My Asia Fashion (MAF), which showcased an impressive display of its new line: "Tom Abang Saufi by MAF". The designer- Dato’ Dayang Fatimah Tom Abang Saufi, is one of Malaysia’s most famous fashion designers well-known for her stunning modern fashion with special touches of Malaysian ethnic elements.
