New Director of Sales and Marketing at the CCIB

Carlos Sanchez Caballero has been appointed Director of Sales and Marketing at the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB). As head of this department, he will be in charge of the promotion and marketing, both nationally and internationally, of one of Europe’s leading venues, which is part of the prestigious international group GL Events.

A graduate of Hotel Management from the University of Barcelona, Sanchez has extensive experience in the marketing and promotion of internationally renowned hotel establishments specialised in event organisation.

To date he has occupied the position of Director of Sales and Marketing at the five-star Princesa Sofia Gran Hotel, one of Barcelona’s most prestigious hotels. He also held the same position at the five-star Hotel InterContinental Presidente in Cancun (Mexico) and in the Expo Hotels & Resorts chain, which has several four and five-star establishments in Spain. His curriculum also includes the emblematic five-star Hotel Arts in Barcelona, belonging to the Ritz Carlton Hotel Company, where he held positions such as Group Revenue Manager and Reservations Sales Supervisor.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
