Friday, October 10, 2008
Emirates Airline will host the 4th World Airline Bowling Championship (WABC), to be held at the Dubai International Bowling Centre from 30th October–1st November.
Thirty two teams from more than 11 international airlines have already confirmed participation and will compete for trophies in the singles, doubles, masters and team events as well as the coveted World Airline Bowling Cup Champion Team accolade.

Competition hosts Emirates, who won the last WABC in 2006, will defend their title with a strong contingent of six teams. Staff from a number of Emirates Group departments and divisions within Dubai will compete, ably captained by Dilan Selvadurai, the WABC reigning champion.

Mohammed Al Khaja, Chairman of Emirates' Bowling Club, which is organising as well as hosting the event, said: "After the successes of the previous World Airline Bowling tournaments in Dubai, the number of participating teams has again increased this year, which will undoubtedly create an extremely challenging and exciting competition. We are delighted to welcome teams from 11 other airlines from as far afield as USA, Australia and Singapore and look forward to witnessing the excellent team spirit which is always a feature of the WABC."

The opening ceremony is scheduled for 9am on Thursday October 30th at the Dubai International Bowling Centre, Al Mamzar, Deira, followed by team events from 10.30am to 3pm. Doubles events, both male and female, take place on Friday October 31st from 10am-1pm and from 2pm-5pm. Saturday November 1st sees action from the male and female Singles Squads between 9am-12noon; 1pm-4pm and 4.20pm-6pm.

The awards will be presented at an invitation-only ceremony and gala dinner on Saturday November 1st.
