Over 40 organisations have signed up to ‘The 2012 UK Event Industry Fair Pricing & Practice Charter’ since its launch just 2 weeks ago. Signatories to the Charter, which was created by Visit London and VisitBritain with support from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG), undertake that their pricing for the period around the 2012 Olympic Games be both fair and reasonable and that they will not artificially inflate prices for goods or services. In turn, Charter members will be promoted to organisers seeking venues and suppliers via Visit London’s enquiry service and through Visit Britain’s network of overseas offices.
Major venues signing up to the Charter include the London Eye, Vinopolis and the Natural History Museum. Zoe Watts, Head of Events & Catering at the Natural History Museum comments; “We are 100% behind this initiative. The London Olympics is a chance to showcase the great venues we have in the UK and the introduction of this charter provides us with an opportunity to demonstrate that we can compete both in terms of value and product offering”.
The charter, which is supported by 21 individual organisations, including government and tourism bodies, marketing consortia and industry trade associations, provides a voluntary Code of Practice for both UK venues and event suppliers.
