“Are you ready for take off?”
Finishing touches to new event venue Station Airport
Tuesday, December 02, 2008
“Are you ready for take off?” runs the slogan for the Station Airport, a new special event venue at Dusseldorf International Airport. As from 2009, this facility will turn Dusseldorf Airport into a prime address for event planners and event-goers as well.

Directly overlooking the airport runways, the Station Airport event terminal is a special venue unmatched anywhere else in Europe. This novel event facility is marketed by DusseldorfCongress, one of Europe’s biggest onestop venue providers.

Part of the airport’s mainline railway station, Station Airport can boast an ultra-modern flair, capacities for the very group sizes that are in heavy demand, a central transport location, and breathtaking views. But the absolute highlight of this distinctive venue is the view of Dusseldorf Airport’s runways that it offers through the surrounding panorama windows. Every day, up to 700 aircraft take off and touch down there. The open-air terrace connected directly to it makes the planes seem close enough to touch.

“The Station Airport is important to Dusseldorf Airport in terms of expanding our B2B service infrastructure. No other airport can offer a communication platform of this caliber. We look forward to embarking on this project together with DusseldorfCongress,” Christoph Blume, management board spokesman at airport operator Flughafen Dusseldorf, commented.

Hilmar Guckert, Managing Director of DusseldorfCongress Veranstaltungsgesellschaft mbH, also has high hopes of the new facility: “We have already received countless inquiries for the Station Airport. With its unique location and atmosphere, it is perfectly in sync with the current trend in the events industry. Companies in particular are constantly in search of really out-of-the-ordinary, well-equipped special-event venues – so success is a given for the Station Airport.”

From mid-January 2009, the mainline railway station at Dusseldorf International Airport will be available for functions with up to 1,650 people. In the coming months, a glass partition wall will first be installed to screen off the public station area and ensure that events take place in a secluded and exclusive atmosphere. Additionally, all the facilities needed for smooth event organization, such as dressing rooms, sanitary installations, production offices, conference rooms, and a kitchen to reheat foods, are being fitted.

Then, as from next year, around 3,900 m² of event space on two separate levels will be ready to stage a wide variety of event concepts. The Station Airport is conspicuous for its elegant architecture and authentic airport ambience. It offers room for all manner of creative arrangements, be they aftershow parties, fashion shows, kick-offs, galas, or product presentations.

Another unique feature is the Station Airport’s ideal location - as an international hub, Dusseldorf Airport can boast perfect transport connections. By air, rail, motorway, and coach – all routes lead directly to the Station Airport. And the car parks already available at the airport terminals provide plenty of parking space. On request, the SkyTrain will whisk guests straight from the car parks to their event.

The imminent privatization of Olympic Airlines is expected to change the fate of this debt-laden airline. What do you think the new owner should do in regard to the brand name of the Greek national flag carrier?.

Keep “Olympic Airlines” as the name of the company as it remains a strong brand.

The company should keep “Olympic” as an element of its name but refresh the brand (e.g. “New Olympic Airlines”).

The airline should drop “Olympic” from its name. This brand has lost its value and isn’t relevant to the market anymore.
