Alternative Airlines welcomes Cimber Air to London Gatwick
Thursday, December 04, 2008
With a horned Viking Helmet on its tail, the CRJ200 Canadair Regional Jet of the independent Danish airline, has been arriving punctually at 2000 into London's Gatwick Airport since 24th November 2008. The full-service flights from Billund in Western Denmark operate daily -except Saturdays- with a maximum capacity of 50 passengers. This effectively replaces the low cost flights operated previously by the bankrupt airline, Sterling.
Alternative Airlines Managing Director, John Pope, said: "This is a really strong indicator of the future for Air Travel. Every time there is an airline consolidation or failure, there is also an opportunity for a new or lesser known carrier to emerge. Taking over a route with an established traffic base is a easier proposition than launching a brand new route. Cimber Air is one of Europe's unsung airline heroes. It is family owned, terrifically focussed on providing good passenger service and is already operating into the UK with a very succesful service between Newcastle and Copenhagen. It is great that we can now enjoy their presence at Gatwick."
Cimber Air already operates domestic services in Denmark and international flights from Copenhagen, Billund and Norkopping. From Copenhagen services operate to Basel, Newcastle, Wroclaw, Norrkoping, and Danish domestic flights to Aarhus, Billund, Bornholm, Karup, Soenderborg and Aalborg. From Norrkoping flights fly to Copenhagen, Helsinki and Munich. Finally rom Billund there are services to London Gatwick , Munich, Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Bornholm (Christmas).
