Flybe innovation is a response to the economic pressures
Flybe: Free redundancy cancellation insurance cover
Monday, January 05, 2009
Flights booked in January with UK’s number one domestic airline now backed up by insurance cover Flybe, Europe’s largest and most successful regional airline and the United Kingdom’s premier domestic airline, announced a new initiative that is set to give unrivalled reassurance to consumers looking to start the year by booking a well earned break.

Flybe’s Book With Confidence guarantee means that throughout January, travellers can book flights, car hire and hotels  for travel anytime before October 24th, safe in the knowledge that - should job loss for them or anyone in their party lead to the need to cancel - they will be automatically fully covered through its innovative insurance cover, and at no cost.

This latest Flybe innovation is a response to the economic pressures currently faced by everyone in the country and in recognition of job insecurity which is a crucial issue for families and their travel plans in 2009. The free-of-charge policy has been designed specifically to reassure travellers that they will not be left out of pocket in the event of redundancy provided they have over two years continuous employment with the same employer ; it allows those who have booked with Flybe to receive a full refund on travel costs associated with their trip.

Flybe’s Book With Confidence guarantee is also simple to administer. In the event of redundancy between January and the time of travel, and on receipt of the required documentation , passengers will be able to quickly claim back travel costs including airfare, booking fee, baggage, seat assignment, pre-paid car hire and pre-paid hotels and parking. Flybe will also ensure that travellers receive a full refund of government and airport taxes and charges.

Mike Rutter, Chief Commercial Officer, Flybe, comments: “These are unprecedented times and Flybe wants to do our bit to keep the economy moving. That’s why we’re introducing our completely free redundancy cancellation cover so that consumers can book with us in January secure in the knowledge that if they lose their job before they travel, Flybe will give them a full refund.”

Mr Rutter continued: “Flybe will fund in full the insurance costs through our Insurance partner AIG UK Limited and the peace-of-mind guarantee means that if one member of a party on the same booking is made redundant, any or all of the remaining members of that party can receive a refund if they want one. We know that holidays and breaks are important to our passengers and that’s why we’re introducing what we believe is a totally unmatched offer in the aviation world.”

Poll
The imminent privatization of Olympic Airlines is expected to change the fate of this debt-laden airline. What do you think the new owner should do in regard to the brand name of the Greek national flag carrier?.

Keep “Olympic Airlines” as the name of the company as it remains a strong brand.

The company should keep “Olympic” as an element of its name but refresh the brand (e.g. “New Olympic Airlines”).

The airline should drop “Olympic” from its name. This brand has lost its value and isn’t relevant to the market anymore.
