Tuesday, January 13, 2009
Wizz Air, the largest low fare–low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe announced that it would enter the Czech market by opening six new routes to be operated from Prague International Airport, starting from as early as 19 February 2009. The initial route network will include services to London Luton, Rome, Milan Bergamo, Brussels Charleroi, Paris Beauvais and Eindhoven.

All the flights are on sale on wizzair.com or via call centerl. Jozsef Varadi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air said: “Wizz Air’s opening of the Prague market is a logical and well timed step of the airline’s expansion in Central and Eastern Europe. We aim at becoming the leading low cost carrier in the Czech Republic in the coming years as in our other home markets.”

Poll
The imminent privatization of Olympic Airlines is expected to change the fate of this debt-laden airline. What do you think the new owner should do in regard to the brand name of the Greek national flag carrier?.

Keep “Olympic Airlines” as the name of the company as it remains a strong brand.

The company should keep “Olympic” as an element of its name but refresh the brand (e.g. “New Olympic Airlines”).

The airline should drop “Olympic” from its name. This brand has lost its value and isn’t relevant to the market anymore.
