US Airways outlines case for Rio de Janeiro flying with U.S. DOT
Wednesday, February 04, 2009
US Airways filed a response to evidence request from the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) outlining compelling facts and figures in support of its application to operate daily, year-round service to Rio de Janeiro beginning in fall 2009. The flight number and aircraft will originate in Philadelphia, fly to Charlotte, N.C. and then onto Rio de Janeiro.

Senior Vice President, Marketing and Planning Andrew Nocella said, "US Airways' application injects important, new competition into a highly competitive and restrictive flying environment. As a new entrant in the U.S.-Brazil market, we believe our application to be the most compelling and to hold the most benefit for the flying public.

"Consumers in 83 different cities across the US Airways route map will have easy one-stop connecting access to Brazil through our Charlotte hub on the same aircraft and same flight number. Additionally, our proposal would give consumers in 68 communities a second, one-stop connecting option to Brazil."
