GuestLogix Inc., the leading provider of on-board retail systems to the airline industry, has launched the OnBoard PowerSeller 2, the company's next generation mobile point-of-sale (POS) handheld, in Asia Pacific. Designed and developed specifically for passenger travel environments, the OnBoard PowerSeller 2, with its integrated PIN Pad, offers the most universal, cost-effective and secure method for managing and processing on-board sales transactions. It comes with the latest version of GuestLogix’s industry-leading Mobile Virtual StoreTM POS software, one of the few airline POS applications that has met all PCI Security Standard Council’s (PCI SSC) compliance mandates and has been validated according to the Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS). Flight attendants are able to quickly process credit and debit card and other forms of payment for refreshments, meals, in-flight entertainment, on-board shopping and duty-free goods, all on a single device.
“Airlines across Asia Pacific are increasingly observing that the Chip and PIN credit card processing method is becoming the norm. At the same time, they are also concerned about the security of their payment processes due to the risk of credit card fraud in an offline environment,” said John Devins, Director of Asia Pacific, GuestLogix. “The key issue for them is the need to provide travelers with a means of payment that is fast yet secure, convenient and easy-to-use. This need has been met by the combination of our new handheld device and updated software, which answers the most rigorous payment scenarios and security requirements.”
“In these uncertain economic times, it is more important than ever for airlines to maximize their on-board retail opportunities to both maximize ancillary revenue and boost the customer experience. Our scaleable, customizable solution will help them to achieve this by integrating and speeding up transaction processes, reduce card processing costs, and ultimately providing their passengers with better service,” he added.
The new GuestLogix OnBoard PowerSeller 2 is the world's first PED version 2.0 compliant and fully-integrated device that features printing, MSR, barcode scanning, IC card reading and EMV Level 2 secure Chip and PIN functionality, eliminating the need for other cumbersome payment devices on-board. The unit sports a large touch screen interface for quick and easy use, and it supports a full spectrum of wireless communication technology, including Tri-band GSM/GPRS, WLAN 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth, to work with other devices and services on-board.
The GuestLogix Mobile Virtual Store POS software runs on Microsoft Windows CE to feature an ‘iPhone’-like user experience and workflow, but can also support multiple interface layers to adapt to the operator and the business environment in any language. The Payment functions can be configured to any forms of payment and currency, including electronic signature. The Data Transmission function encrypts sensitive data as per PCI DSS methods and uses secure transmission protocols for packet data distribution over cellular and WiFi networks. The POS software is augmented by two Web-based applications: the POS Manager which handles administration, configuration, security, transmission and integration functions; and, the Asset Manager which provides device and parts management and tracking along with repairs.
