Mantic Point shows the way with latest handheld travel guide
Technology innovator takes personalised service to new level
Wednesday, February 11, 2009
Innovative concierge service provider, Mantic Point, is launching its new mobile-web product at the Travel Technology Show 2009. The Leeds-based company, which provides personalised travel and destination assistance to subscribers using a mobile phone, will now offer a mobile-web service to holidaymakers and business travellers, in addition to the SMS service currently on offer.

Part owned by Rolls Royce, Mantic Point is the only key player to provide a service that is personalised, context-aware and multi-channelled.

“SMS is a great alerting technology, but it is restricted to 160 characters. By using mobile-web we can provide our customers with more detailed and richer information, including airport and destination guides. We can also update travellers more frequently on their journey,” said Mike Atherton, Managing Director at Mantic Point.

He added: “We will continue to provide a multi-channelled approach as we believe in offering holidaymakers a choice. SMS is still the mass market technology that everyone can use, but mobile-web usage is growing rapidly.”

By using the Mantic Point product world travellers can ensure they get to their departure point bang on time, receive assistance once they have arrived at their destination and even receive weather and traffic updates. Holidaymakers simply visit a link on their mobile at any time to receive relevant, context-aware information.

“We are very excited about the new version as it is so simple to use. We only provide holidaymakers with information that is relevant at a certain stage of their journey. For example, we will show them their flight status and traffic alerts when they are en-route to the airport, but once they have arrived at the airport we will direct them to their gate.”

Alongside the SMS product which is currently used by travel brands including easyJet, BAA and WAYN.com, Mantic Point’s new mobile-web version is also available to travel companies in white-label form. Not only does the handheld travel guide enhance customer service, but it can also be configured quickly, without expense and creates new opportunities to boost ancillary revenue.
