NBTA praises President Obama for plan to strengthen U.S. rail infrastructure

The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) – the largest association of business travel professionals – applauds U.S. President Obama for his plan to build a nationwide system of high-speed rail lines. Obama’s vision today is directly in line with NBTA recommendations for 2009 to provide additional funding for U.S. high speed-rail networks to ease congested aviation routes and bolster the economy.
NBTA President & CEO Kevin Maguire, CCTE, GLP, commented, “NBTA has advocated for a high-speed rail network in the U.S. for years to take pressure of crowded aviation routes and to provide business travelers with more efficient and effective alternatives to get where they need to go. We are pleased that President Obama has continued to recognize the benefits of bolstering an antiquated transportation infrastructure.”
Obama’s proposed funding would go toward improving existing rail lines to accommodate trains that travel at 100mph or faster and to identify and construct new rail lines in major U.S. corridors.
Maguire continued, “Obama’s proposal is one that will benefit the nation as a whole. It will create jobs, lower gas bills, ease congestion and contribute to the preservation of our world. It is an economic stimulus plan in itself, and NBTA looks forward to working with the Administration to make the plan become a reality.”
