A 38% increase in holidays booked to Mexico in the last couple of months
Brits ignore Swine Flu as Mexico holiday’s up nearly 40%
Monday, June 01, 2009
The UK’s fastest growing independent online travel agent has seen a 38% increase in holidays booked to Mexico in the last couple of months compared to the same time last year, despite being the epicentre of the major Swine Flu epidemic.

The UK’s fastest growing online independent travel agent has seen a 38% increase in Brits booking holidays to Mexico in April and May of this year compared to the same time in 2008, despite the major Swine Flu epidemic.

Initially, Sunshine.co.uk received cancellation requests from holiday-goers who were due to fly to Mexico in the coming months but the online travel agent soon noticed an increase in the amount of holidays being booked for Mexico and its surrounding areas for the end of 2009.

Additionally, enquiries on the Sunshine.co.uk website for Mexico have gone up 57% and it is presumed Brits are seeing the Swine Flu epidemic as an opportunity to grab themselves a cheap luxury holiday for the end of 2009, when the Swine Flu epidemic is hoped to have ended.

Chris Brown, Managing Director of Sunshine.co.uk said about the findings; "We can’t be sure as to why there has been this sudden increase in holiday bookings and enquiries for Mexico, but all we can do is offer advice to our customers about what to do if the Swine Flu epidemic is not over at the time of their scheduled holiday.

“This time last year, the majority of holidays booked to Mexico were for the coming summer months, however almost 100% of bookings for Mexico taken this April and May are for November and December 2009, by which time Brits are hoping Swine Flu will no longer be a concern.”
