Wyboston Lakes launches guide for delegate etiquette
Monday, July 13, 2009
Wyboston Lakes, one of the UK’s most respected conference and training centres, has launched a guide to help delegates make the most of mixing with peers and corporate influencers.

Wyboston Lakes is used by organisations seeking to train, develop and motivate their staff.  The conference and training centre has been used as a base for high-level corporate decision making through to the most pioneering of brainstorms and testing of training environments.

With workplace etiquette extending its reach into meeting rooms across the UK and Europe, corporate customs and culture has never been more prolific.  With thousands of delegates visiting the centre each year and, working with key clients, Wyboston Lakes has created the definitive guide to etiquette assured to keep even the most pugnacious of delegates on track!

- Delegates should be prompt and adhere to times schedules.  Pitching up late on the first morning gives the immediate impression that you cannot be bothered.  Check journey times and arrive with time to spare in order to network.
- Adhere to dress codes. If in doubt, dress to impress, namely for success. Be sure to read the joining instructions carefully – there is nothing worse than being the only guest wearing chinos at a black-tie dinner.
- Respect the rights of other delegates and guests in the venue. Remember you are a representative of your company.
- Refrain from the use of profane language at all times.
- Allow others to talk and interact in the conversation.
- Turn off mobile phones and blackberries, and concentrate on the speaker.  The course is being held to impart knowledge – not for you to carry on your day job in a different atmosphere.
- Leave your partner at home unless, of course, they are invited.
- Do not over-indulge in either food or drink – in particular, alcohol. Things may well be on the company account but do not use the event as a feeding frenzy!

Clive Bache, sales and marketing director at Wyboston Lakes said:  “We have put together this very basic guide as it is amazing how many delegates fail to make the most of opportunities presented to them.  We’ve worked with our regular clients to list the basic expectations that corporates have with regard to their delegates.  It is key to note that, in today’s market place, corporates are increasingly looking at the behaviour of their employees - and whilst some may think they are ‘at liberty’ out of the office, they are in fact under greater scrutiny than ever before.”
