Additional flights to Sydney commence on 4 October 2009
Tiger Airways announces more flights to Sydney from both Melbourne and Adelaide
Tuesday, July 21, 2009
Tiger Airways announces it will increase daily flights to its newest destination, Sydney, from both Melbourne and Adelaide, as a result of strong customer demand for more services from Australia’s only true low fare airline.

The increased schedule provides more than double the number of daily flights offered by Tiger Airways on Australia’s busiest route, with up to nine flights per day in each direction between Melbourne to Sydney. The schedule also doubles the number of daily flights on the soon to commence Adelaide – Sydney route with two flights per day in each direction.

The additional flights from Melbourne and Adelaide to Sydney are on sale now for flights commencing from 4 October 2009, after the latest Tiger Airways aircraft arrives and starts flying in Australia.

Shelley Roberts, Tiger Airways Managing Director, says this is fantastic news in the current environment when business travellers are looking to save money on their travel costs and the tourism industry is working hard to stimulate more domestic demand.

"The reduction in services from Sydney implemented by other airlines has meant that Tiger Airways has been able to increase our slot portfolio at Sydney airport giving us a comprehensive set of departure times throughout the day on both routes."

“We launched our new Melbourne to Sydney route on 3 July 2009 and the first few weeks of operation have been fantastic. We’ve consistently had very full planes and are achieving great reliability results for our on time arrivals and departures. The arrival of another new aircraft into our Australian fleet means we can offer more daily services from Sydney to satisfy huge consumer demand for our low fares, especially from business travellers who are looking for both very low fares and frequent services at convenient times.

“In addition, forward sales for our soon to commence Adelaide – Sydney route have surpassed our expectations so we’re doubling daily flights on that route too – from one flight daily to two.

“With fares starting from just $39 on both the Melbourne to Sydney and Adelaide to Sydney routes, we’re making travel much more affordable for all Australians, allowing people who may never have travelled by air or who haven’t for some time, to now fly with Tiger Airways. But our experience is that both of these routes are extremely popular and that customers should book early to get the best fares” says Roberts.
