London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games
2012: Three years and counting...
Monday, August 10, 2009
With less than three years to go to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, Visit London reveals that over a third of London’s unique leading venues have signed up to the 2012 UK Events Industry Fair Pricing and Practice Charter.

The 30 venues, which are all members of the marketing consortium Unique Venues of London (UVL), include iconic events spaces at the Natural History Museum, Kensington Palace and BFI Imax as well as the more intimate Foundling Museum, Gibson Hall and The Wallace Collection.

The voluntary code of practice, the first initiative of its kind to be launched by an Olympic hosting nation, sees venues commit to reasonable and fair trading terms during the Olympic Games.

The Charter also plays an important role in the initial selection criteria for event stakeholders looking to book venues, suppliers, products and services during the 2012 period.

Tracy Halliwell, Director of Business Tourism at Visit London comments: “The 2012 UK Events Industry Fair Pricing and Practise Charter plays a vital role in London’s Olympic success. Not only is it an ideal sales tool for venues but it demonstrates their commitment to promoting London as a premier destination. It is therefore excellent news to have such a large percentage of Unique Venues of London’s members on board – and indeed to see that they are already winning business and well into the planning stages for the Games”.

Lisa Hatswell Chairman of UVL and Sales and Corporate Events Manager at the London Eye adds: “We are delighted that so many of our members have joined this important scheme which reflects our own organisation’s ethos and code of practice. We are actively encouraging all our members to sign up to the Charter by the end of this year and are pleased by the commitment already shown by our members”.
