Association of Canadian Travel Agencies
ACTA encourages Air Canada to continue recognition of the agencies value
Tuesday, September 08, 2009
The Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA) is working with is member travel agencies to help show Air Canada the value that travel professionals continue to bring to the table with their increased bookings. ACTA Agents and agencies were pleased to be part of the announced increase in business that Air Canada has seen since the recent Tango fare commission reinstatement. "I know members are aware that these types of programs are based on revenue sharing and cannot be taken lightly, our members have demonstrated to the airline that the travel agency distribution model can be an integral part of an increase in market share, and we will all benefit in the long term. Commitment is a two way street, as long as the agency community sees the long term pledge of a commission structure, airlines will be eager to show continued support or even perhaps to enhance the remuneration model”, said David McCaig, President and COO.
Air Canada’s actions clearly demonstrate that they mean business when it comes to a commitment to the travel agencies. Ben Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer said "These record load factor results, for the second consecutive month, combined with stable system traffic year-over-year, reflect not only our ongoing disciplined approach to capacity management, but also the strong response from our customers and travel trade partners. Our initiatives over recent months to re-engage customers and travel agents are clearly starting to pay off.”
At ACTA we have seen that our industry members have shown their willingness to support Air Canada and we are aware this new direction will be a benefit to both.
