AVIAREPS and Afriqiyah (Libya) have signed a GSA agreement for the South African market. With immediate effect, the world’s leading international representation company will handle all sales, marketing and ticketing activities for the Libyan carrier out of its subsidiary in Johannesburg. Afriqiyah Airways will introduce a connection from Tripoli (Libya) to Johannesburg (South Africa) on 18th September 2009.
Afriqiyah Airways’ first flight out of Libya to the South African capital will take off from Tripoli International Airport. From then on, the carrier will offer a connection from Johannesburg to Libya two times a week - every Tuesday and Saturday. These flights will be operated with a brand-new A330-200 airplane which was purchased from the aircraft manufacturer Airbus in August 2009. This model can comfortably seat 230 passengers in a two-class configuration.
Afriqiyah Airways started its operations in April 2001 with a strong focus on intercontinental traffic between Europe and Africa. It is fully owned by the Libyan government and is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organisation. The airline currently operates flights to six European capitals from its base in Tripoli - Amsterdam, London, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Paris and Rome. In addition, Afriqiyah Airways connects these European destinations with numerous cities throughout the African continent via its home base in Libya.
The Libyan airline focuses on offering customers excellent service and generous baggage allowance for reasonable travel fares. Its renewed fleet of modern Airbus A320 aircraft is currently being extended with brand-new long-haul airliners of type A330 and A350. Afriqiyah Airways offers comfortable and reliable service including state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment, excellent food and multilingual flight attendants.
