BT Convention Centre tops C&IT Hot List 2009

BT Convention Centre, part of ACC Liverpool, is celebrating after being named ‘Best Sustainable Venue’ by Conference & Incentive Travel Magazine.
The C&IT Hot List 2009 celebrates the best UK and overseas venues, destinations and suppliers in the events industry and is voted for by C&IT's readers. Other awards at the high profile event on Wednesday included those for Top Conference Destination, Top Incentive Destination, Best Unusual Venue and Top DMC.
The recognition comes hot on the heels of two other coveted awards that were bestowed this week on the venue. At the Northwest Tourism Awards, organised by the Northwest Regional Development Agency, ACC Liverpool won two of the top accolades: ‘Excellence in Business Tourism’ and the ‘Sustainable Tourism’ award.
ACC Liverpool has been specifically designed to produce half the CO2 emissions it would without any environmentally-friendly measures. Five 20-metre low noise wind turbines contribute to the provision of the venue’s electricity, and rainwater that is collected on the roof is used to flush toilets.
Jacquie Rogers, General Manager of BT Convention Centre said: “We are absolutely delighted with the C&IT award as it is voted by our clients and peers and is therefore a true testament of our contribution towards sustainability. The C&IT Award comes hot on the heels of two other incredible accolades and clearly demonstrates we are a beacon of best practice for business tourism and sustainability in the events sector.”
