Portugal has been awarded this year’s Travel Agents Choice Award in the category of Short Haul Destinations - Golf Holidays, recognising the country’s top-of-the-range golfing facilities and superb tourist offering.

The Awards are voted for by UK travel agents and will be presented at World Travel Market on 9th November 2009 by Travel Agents Choice Awards’ Managing Director, Martin Steady.

Miguel Perestrello, Director of Tourism for the Portuguese National Tourist Office in the UK, said: “We are thrilled to have been recognised by travel agents in the UK for our golf offering. Portugal offers 70 golf courses across the country, with 35 of Championship standard, as well as stunning scenery and a fantastic climate which all make a golfing holiday in Portugal one of the best in the world.”

Portugal attracts over 300,000 golfers every year and hosts the Portugal Masters, one of the most important golf tournaments in the PGA European Tour.

The Portuguese National Tourist Office was also nominated for the best Tourist Office in Mainland Europe, alongside Spain, Netherlands and Greece.
